n studentsââ¬â¢ scores on the SGLSST be improved? How should the curriculum and instructional process relate to preparation for the SGLSST? How should the results of the SGLSST be used in instructional planning? How do these suggestions impact students with special needs? The teachers, administrators, parents and students at Resthaven Elementary are all facing a huge dilemma. Itââ¬â¢s clear that the teachers are frustrated and perplexed on how to effectively teach their students. The parents are becoming doubtful that the staff can adequately accommodate their children. In addition, the studentââ¬â¢s have begun engaging in disruptive behaviors most likely caused by a lack of interest and motivation to learn. Fortunately, there are steps that can be taken to turn all this around. In order for teachers at Resthaven Elementary to improve their studentââ¬â¢s scores on the SGLSST teachers must first evaluate their own behavior, tolerance and expectations. They must also create a healthy learning environment and motivate their students to do well. One of the most important instructional factors related to student achievement is the teacherââ¬â¢s behavior. The teachersââ¬â¢ behavior and expectations have a direct impact on how their students behave and perform. The teacher-student interaction must be positive. To promote academic achievement in students, teachers must have high expectations, be encouraging, be patient, provide supportive and corrective feedback and frequently assess their studentââ¬â¢s
